Pottery usually consists of a clay base mixed with water then fired to remove the water in a kiln to create a solid shape or form that can be used for what its design shapes it to look like. Early pottery works by African Americans can be defined as Colono-ware and consisted of earthenware which made them rough pieces of pottery opposite of what Euro-americans used which was stoneware. Through archeology, archeologists have inspected areas such as slave quarters and have found pottery from those times that really reflect the type of material that it is made with and just how they made the pottery.
